If Nothing Else, Do These 5 Things in Your Job Interview

If leidhing Else, Do These 5 Things in Your Job InterviewIf Nothing Else, Do These 5 Things in Your Job InterviewGetting face-to-face with a potential employer can be very exciting- and also totally nerve-wracking. Unfortunately, there are many, many ways that job seekers can botch up a job interview. If nothing else, do these five things during your job interview to ensure successShow up on time.It goes without saying that the first impression youll make on your potential employer is if youre on time- or not. Be sure to show up at least 15 minutes earlier than your scheduled interview time. Not only will you be able to find parking, but you can also find the hiring managers office and get yourself situated with time to spare. If youre doing a Skype interview for a telecommuting job, make sure that you sign onto your account at least 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled interview time. That way, if your connection is slow or a program isnt working, youll have time to fix it before y our interview- sans stress.Remember your interviewers name.Youre nervous. Its totally understandable. But your interviewer wont understand (or think too highly of you) if you call him Mr. Wilsonand his name is Mr. Weathers. To avoid saying the wrong name- or forgetting it altogether- try practicing saying your interviewers name a few times before the interview. That way, it will flow more freely and naturally during your conversation.Learn how to talk about your accomplishments. If you thought that your resume and cover letter could do all the talking for you, think again. During the job interview, your interviewer will most likely ask you to expand upon certain points in your resume. But if talking about your previous accomplishments leaves you a little tongue-tied, youll need to learn how to speak about your successes without sounding like youre boasting or bragging. Focus on what you specifically did (e.g., you helped create a company-wide program that helped boost productivity b y 20 percent) to ensure that your conversation will be fact-based.Speak well of your previous position. Even if you absolutely, positively hated your brde job and every single solitary thing about it (including your insane boss), you should never, ever mention it during a job interview. While no one is asking you to lie about your previous job, you should try as hard as you can to find a few positive things to say about the position. You can mention how you learned a new program, worked together well as a team, or helped your boss on a months-long project. If you are negative during an interview, you are limiting your chances of getting hired, so stay positiveShowcase your knowledge. Some job seekers show up to a job interview ready to answer questions about their previous work history, but dont have any questions of their own to ask their prospective boss. Before heading into the interview, do some research first about the company and your interviewer. Find out about the history of the company and, if possible, your interviewers own accomplishments working there. He or she will be very impressed that you know so much about the company, which will surely make you one of the top candidates for the position.Sure, there are many things you can potentially do to make an interview go badly, but there are even more ways that you can swing a job interview in your favor. Be confident, be prepared, and be ready to accept a job offerReaders, how do you prep for job interviews? Let us know in the comments section below

5 Simple Ways to Build Relationships That Stand the Test of Time

5 Simple Ways to Build Relationships That Stand the Test of Time5 Simple Ways to Build Relationships That Stand the Test of TimeTheres no question that success in business, and in life, often comes down to who you know, not what you know. Having observed the lives of remarkably successful people, Im convinced that creating a network of meaningful relationships is integral to their success. Deep connections allow you to create impact faster and on a larger scale.Great networks dont grow on trees. You cant buy them on Amazon or find them on LinkedIn. To build the best network, you must develop meaningful relationships. These five habits will help you foster the sort of relationships thatll lead you to success1. Be GenerousThe best relationships are built on a mutual desire to give value to the other partie. When both parties are mora focused on giving than receiving, it fosters a genuine bond that goes deeper than the value of the exchange. That bond is based on mutual trust that each o f you wants what is best for the other.Generosity takes many forms. It can be as easy as making an introduction, lending an ear, or giving the gift of your expertise.2. Listen WellEveryone wants to be heard and understood, which is why listening is the foundation for any meaningful relationship. Authentic listening signals that youre genuinely interested in the other person and what he or she has to say.Part of being a good listener is developing self-awareness and noticing if youre truly engaged in the conversation. One of the easiest and fastest ways to be a better listener is to stop interrupting.3. Treat Others How You Want to Be TreatedYou can be as smart, talented, and ambitious as you want, but none of that matters if you have a bad reputation. Building a positive reputation takes time and is vital to building meaningful relationships. As a mentor once told me, You only get one last name. Dont tarnish it.The best way to build a stellar reputation is to consistently treat othe rs in the same way you want to be treated. It sounds easy, but its surprising how few people remember this golden rule. If you need some help, focus on developing the traits of likable people. Doing so will help you to model your behavior to be aligned with the golden rule.4. Celebrate Others AccomplishmentsI still remember when my friend wrote me an email to congratulate me on a partnership announcement for SkyBell. It made me feel incredible, and it affirmed that part of developing strong friendships is acknowledging the accomplishments of your friends.Become a fan for your friends when they announce big news. Even something as simple as a quick congratulations on social media can show others that their accomplishments dont go unnoticed. Of course, a phone call or in-person celebration is even better.5. Focus on QualityNo matter how hard you try, you simply cant add more hours to your day. This is why successful people focus on fostering a few key relationships, rather than spread ing their time across as many people as possible. Quickly adding more connections might make you feel more productive, but the best networks are created through depth, not breadth.Meaningful relationships are built with intention, sincerity, honesty, and generosity. There are no shortcuts. If you make the five habits listed in this article a way of life, youll build a network that fuels your professional success and adds happiness to your life. This article was originally published on Inc. 4 Things Employers Want to See on your Resume

4 Things Employers Want to See on your Resume 4 Things Employers Want to See on your Resume When it comes to searching for a new job, career or freelancer position, it can often be a dog eat dog world.  Ask a recruiter who has the bargaining power in today’s market and their opinion will vary from week to week if not day to day.  This one will say qualified employees are in high demand.  That one will tell you that potential employers hold all the chips in the salary bargaining game. Like death and taxes, however, one thing is certain; employers will always seek the highest quality candidates in order to give the best chances at filling their open positions quickly and efficiently.  With this in mind, there are a few common qualities that employers look for in resumes that can help clue them in that they’ve found the candidate of their dreams.  Here we delve into the four biggest traits your prospective employer wants to see in your resume or CV and how you can edit, tweak and revise your current document to call-back success.   Show Results As the old saying goes, it’s one thing to talk the talk but another entirely to walk the walk.  Listing off a host of qualifications on your resume is fine and dandy, but to make a big impact candidates should provide details to demonstrate just how those abilities helped benefit their previous employers. What to Do: Make it a point to spell out your major accomplishments in your previous positions.  Projects successfully rolled out, policies changed, sales made or procedures implemented should be sprinkled in with your traits, qualifications, and skills in order to show your potential employer just how that fancy degree equals real-world results. Be Relevant This is a double whammy when it comes to appearing as attractive as possible to your new potential employer.  Regardless of how long you’ve been on the job market, your resume should demonstrate that your skills and experience are relevant to current industry trends and that you’re aware of the current state of your job field of choice. What to Do: Include plenty of clues in your resume that you’re aware of current trends, problems, and developments in your given industry.  In some fields, this can be accomplished with up to date certifications by industry mandatory and optional licensing agencies.  Also, consider including links or references to recent articles as well as mention of confidence and proficiency in modern programming and systems. Be a Smarty An intelligence that’s applicable to your given desired position and job field is one of the key characteristics employers look for when reviewing candidate resumes.  Whether general or specialized skills or intelligence, the smarter the candidate the more likely they will stick around and grow into long-term business contributors and leaders. What to Do: While most may think demonstrating intelligence equals a hefty education section, don’t be afraid if ivy league creds aren’t on the menu of your resume.  Advanced certifications, concise wording and referencing relevant topics, phrases and problems can help demonstrate your proficiency in a given field.  The trick is to show a commitment to education and to staying at the top of your industry knowledge game. Show Some Consistency Another multi-tiered trait, consistency is one of the key indicators employers use when determining which candidates will provide the best return on their workforce investment.  A consistent resume is one that both through form and content showcases a commitment to a single career goal.  This commitment, in turn, builds confidence in your prospective employer that you’re a long-term candidate interested in engaging and helping to build the reach and business of your new employer.   What to Do:  Your resume should demonstrate a clear progression in work history, leading up to your current desired position.  Unless you’ve made major pit stops along the way, lay out your resume in a manner that highlights your commitment to a given job field via a clear progression of roles.  Consistency in form is also important when pitching a resume to a potential employer.  Be sure your CV is free of major grammatical errors and that tense is constant throughout.  Retain common formatting, fonts, and structure throughout the document to come off as professional and consistent as possible Have a suggestion we missed when it comes to traits employers need to see on the resumes of potential hires?  Drop us a line in the comments section below and maybe your tip will make our next revision or advice topic.

Whether you want to file a legal complaint or just pay a fine, youll most likely turn your paperwork or money over to a clerk.   Responsibilities   The responsibilities of this position can vary greatly depending on the courts served, the clerks level of experience, and the region in which he or she works. You may begin in an entry level position and work your way up from there. With education and experience, court clerks can advance to higher positions of responsibility. The typical career path for a court clerk is: Deputy clerk:  Most court clerks begin as deputy clerks, also known as assistant court clerks. They perform a variety of administrative duties, including preparing and processing legal documents, correspondence, motions and orders, and providing customer service to the public, judicial officers, attorneys, and staff.Court clerk:  Deputy clerks can advance to the position of court clerks. Court clerk responsibilities are similar to those of deputy clerks, but they involve higher levels of responsibility and compensation. Chief court clerk:  Chief court clerks, also known as chief deputy clerks or chief clerks, are the highest level in the court clerk system. In some jurisdictions, the chief court clerk is an executive level position. Chief court clerks are responsible for all administrative and operational elements of the Clerk’s Office. They often supervise other staff. This is effectively a management position. Education At a minimum, court clerks possess a high school diploma or its equivalent. Experience counts for a lot on the upward-mobility ladder, but you may be able to at least get your foot in the door with no further education beyond high school. Some court systems require at least two years of college, and many jurisdictions prefer a bachelors degree. A background in business or public administration, political science, criminal justice, law or a related field is helpful. Salaries Salaries for court clerks vary according to jurisdiction, court, and position. Clerks working for the federal court system generally earn the highest salaries. Clerks who are just starting out with only a high school degree tend to earn the least. The median salary as of February 2019 was approximately $39,499, which means just as many clerks earn more than this as those who earn less.   Working Conditions Court clerks generally work in an office setting and may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time as they perform filing, copying, and administrative work. Clerks often must bend or stoop to retrieve files and lift boxes, files and other materials weighing up to 30 pounds or more.   Court clerks usually work a five-day, 40-hour week. Their hours may vary according to federal or state laws, jurisdictional rules and the orders of judges or others with the power to regulate hours of work. Most holidays are paid days off.   Clerks cannot  dispense legal advice, although theyre often asked to do so. This can be frustrating for the citizens they serve because they can explain how to file a document, but they cant detail the legal ramifications of doing so. This can be a fine line that is difficult to maintain. An entry-level clerk typically has much more contact with the public than a chief court clerk, who rarely or ever has reason to interact with the average litigant. The customer service aspect of this job can be particularly trying for those without experience in dealing with the worst human nature has to offer. People dont go to courthouses because everything is great in their lives - they have problems, they want answers, and they may become angry and even abusive when theyre told that only a lawyer can give them those answers. A thick skin is required.   Associations Court Clerks may belong to professional associations, such as the Federal Court Clerks Association or the National Association for Court Management. 6 writing mistakes leaders should never make

6 writing mistakes leaders should never make 6 writing mistakes leaders should never make Books and articles on business leadership love to cover familiar ground: management, training, how to inspire your team and how to promote a winning office culture. Too often, though, the advice leaves out writing skills, a critical yet undervalued aspect of leadership development. If a boss or manager writes well, it can instill confidence in the team, improve workflow and allow employees to better connect with the company’s mission and vision. Here are 6 writing mistakes leaders often make. Correct the errors, and your reputation will improve.1. You bury the leadDon’t put the main point at the end of your email. It’s confusing to your team and also makes employees feel like you’re afraid to step forward with big decisions. If one division within the company receives poor marks from clients â€" and you need to write the members of that division â€" be up front with the situation.Early in the email:I need to meet with all members of the External Comms team because we’ve receiv ed several complaints from clients at Acme Corporation and Tech Corporation. If that same line appears at the end of the email, it feels as though you’re afraid to keep people in line.2. You capitalize the wrong wordsSloppy grammar reflects on your management style â€" especially in front of people who know how to write properly.Simple rule of thumb: capitalize proper nouns (ex: “Nike” but not “running shoes”) and leave job titles in lower case unless they precede someone’s name (ex: “Vice President Jane Doe” or “Jane Doe, vice president … ”)Small editing details make a huge difference particularly when you write the same people day after day. Your mistakes will wear on them.3. You write with huge paragraphsPeople under you don’t want to read giant paragraphs that never seem to end. And if that’s the way you  always  operate, employees will begin to avoid your emails because they know what awaits them. Two strategies to make your messages more readable: Break up big paragraph into smaller sections (1-3 sentences per section). Decide if every word, sentence or paragraph should remain; when in doubt, cut it out. 4. You don’t respond to people below youYour employees need to answer  your  emails, but you have no obligation to respond to theirs?Wrong. Lame. Foolish.A great way to fail at leadership is to appear higher than thou. And don’t use the excuse that “you meant to respond but forgot.” You’re in charge and need to give employees the time of day.A simple, “Thanks, I got your email” reply goes a long way. On one hand, you allow work to move forward because the response keeps everyone on the same page.On the other, a response proves you value your employees’ time. The effort will also raise workplace morale.5. You use passive voice way too much“The year-end reviews have been completed by senior management, and meetings will be scheduled by me over the next week with each team member to discuss.”Let’s locate the two subjects and flip the sentence into active voice.“Senior management  has completed the year-end reviews, and  I  will schedule meetings over the next wee k with each team member to discuss.”Active voice feels more confident and authoritative. Plus, the active-voice version is 23 words; the passive sentence has 27 words.More confident and more to the point. Active voice wins.6. Your style makes you appear unenthusedIf you write in short phrases or fragments, it can feel like you’re unimpressed.Employee writes you: “I want to let you know that after six months, we found out we landed the Walters account. The Walters team wants a planning meeting on Monday so we can get started. Exciting stuff!”And you respond with: “That’s good. Thanks for letting me know.”Sorry, not good enough. Your employee is flying high after landing the new account (which took a full six months). You should come back with: “Excellent news. I know your team worked hard to bring in the Walters account. Keep me posted on the planning meeting details.”We can all sense tone in an email. Make sure your words strike the right one.- - - Every day, the words you use with your team matter. A series of poorly written emails undermines your effectiveness.Polished, professional writing commands respect and improves productivity. With every new email, you have the chance to improve. How can you get better today? This article first appeared on Dannyhrubin.com.

Do not fear the Facebook fishermen

Do not fear the Facebook fishermen Do not fear the Facebook fishermen On Tuesday we told you how to Tweet, Friend and Link your way to that new job through social networking sites. While this remains a popular method for growing numbers of job-seekers looking to exhaust all possible avenues for opportunities, theres another side to social network pages the employer side. Its no secret that some employers have turned to Facebook, MySpace and other social networks to find information on potential hires, with various studies suggesting that up to 40% of employers utilize this technique. In fact, our attempts to get Linda to join Facebook eventually turned to this topic, and we all agreed that we'd probably scope out a potential applicant's page in future hiring scenarios. With this in mind, you might think its time to clean up your act and start pulling down those raunchy frat party pictures (at least de-tag, people!) in preparation for the critical eyes of potential employers, especially if youre going to be using your profile as a job search networking tool. However, just as there are certain questions that employers are prevented from asking you in an interview, there are limits to the information they can gain (and more importantly, how they use that information in their decision process) from Facebook fishing. While there are is no specific prohibition on this technique, there are several pitfalls that employers may encounter when jumping into the Facebook pond. Admittedly, I didnt even consider the potential drawbacks of this kind of screening from an employers perspective I dont think any of us in the discussion did. Fortunately, Jackie Ford of MarketWatch has. Fords article (here) identifies four of the biggest potential hazards, and advises employers to carefully consider their actions before trolling your profile for incriminating information.Shockingly, not everything on Facebook is true. It's one thing to rely on information an applicant directly provides to you. It's another thing to rely on information posted by the a pplicant or others on a website. A Facebook page, like every other public forum, can be the voice of puffery, trickery, and, yes, fakery. Not everything on Facebook is true? What are you going to tell me next? I shouldnt use Wikipedia for fact-checking? Regardless of whether youre as upset as I am to learn that not everything on the internet is real, you can take heart in the fact that copious consumption of legal substances among consenting adults is not going to cost you that job, no matter how ridiculous you may look in those pictures you dont remember posing for. Discretion is probably the wiser route here, but its good to know that in a time when anyone with a computer can seemingly find out way too much information about anyone else, you still have some control over the situation. Of course, once you do land that job, well, then you might want to make sure you keep tabs on your profile. Unless you want to join the League of Facebook Fails with this guy. ASME Hosts Congressional Briefing Highlighting Advances in Bio...

ASME Hosts Congressional Briefing Highlighting Advances in Bio... ASME Hosts Congressional Briefing Highlighting Advances in Bio... ASME Hosts Congressional Briefing Highlighting Advances in Bioengineering June 29, 2018 Dean Kamen, executive director of the Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI)/BioFabUSA, was the keynote speaker at the ASME Congressional Briefing, “Bioengineering: A New Frontier in American Manufacturing,” on June 14. ASME recently hosted a congressional briefing, Bioengineering: A New Frontier in American Manufacturing, featuring keynote speaker Dean Kamen, executive director of the Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI)/BioFabUSA, a Manufacturing USA institute focused on regenerative medicine. Kamen, who received the ASME Medal in 2007, designed several major innovative technologies in the bioengineering sector, including the first portable insulin pump, the iBot all-terrain wheelchair and the Segway. Kamen kicked off the briefing, which was held June 14 in the U.S. Capitol Building, with the analogy, science is a goldmine, engineering is how you get [the gold] out of the ground and make it valuable. He discussed the mission of ARMI, explaining that it filled a role nobody else was tackling by focusing on engineering and scale, rather than basic research. Kamen explained that the future of biomanufacturing is the manufacturing of organs such as kidneys to replace those no longer functioning, rather than chronically treating them. This will save the government a lot of money and have a correspondingly immeasurable impact on the cost of healthcare for all Americans. Looking to the future, Dean stated he hopes to turn Manchester, N.H. where ARMI is located, along with several other biomanufacturing and advanced manufacturing companies such as Kamens other company, DEKA Research and Development into an East Coast version of Silicon Valley for organ reproduction and to transition to a world where regenerative organs are as common as vaccines. ASME President Said Jahanmir (right) introduces panelists Jennifer Hagan-Dier (left), director of the Tennessee Manufacturing Extension Partnership, and Michael Golway, president and CEO of Advanced Solutions Life Sciences, at the briefing on Capitol Hill. Following Kamens presentation, Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) provided remarks, expressing her excitement that the Department of Defense (DOD) played an integral part in helping ARMI get off the ground, further noting that DOD is a key player in advancing new technologies. The innovative new technologies ARMI is developing have enormous potential, including the ability to bring relief to patients on the organ donor list. These technologies also reinforce the major impact that science has on daily life and the need to continue supporting our science agencies. Sen. Shaheen also touched on the dearth of qualified scientists moving into the bioengineering field, explaining that the University of New Hampshire system is closely engaged with ARMI, but more must be done to encourage young people to pursue bioengineering. In closing, she conceded that the current costs of higher education are a barrier to prospective students. Following the senators remarks, Michael Golway, president and CEO of Advanced Solutions Life Sciences, discussed some of the groundbreaking technology his company is working on. Advanced Solutions is a biomanufacturing company with locations all over the United States, including their newest location with ARMI in Manchester, N.H. He explained that the work of Advanced Solutions is a very small piece of the big puzzle Kamen discussed in his keynote address. Golway shared several videos with the audience of the BioAssemblyBot (BABs), a 3D bioassembly technology platform that is also the worlds first human tissue printer. He explained that BABs moves like an arm and can also control workflow. Additional tools can also be attached to the arm for further functional variation. In addition to BABs, Advanced Solutions is working on Patented Angiomics, a technology they have developed in conjunction with ARMI that harvests blood vessels from fat cell tissues, which then undergoes new angiogen esis. (Left to right) ASME Executive Director Thomas Costabile, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and ASME President Said Jahanmir at the June 14th briefing. Sen. Shaheen was one of the speakers at the event. Rounding out the speaker panel was Jennifer Hagan-Dier, director of the Tennessee Manufacturing Extension Partnership. She explained that the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) is a public-private partnership with centers in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. It is dedicated to providing small and medium-sized manufacturers with the support they need to reduce costs, improve efficiencies, create new products and find new markets. The program is dedicated to bolstering the state of American manufacturing, as the investment in research and development from a manufacturing perspective has decreased significantly. Hagan-Dier further noted that what is frequently happening now in manufacturing is that products are being invented by American manufacturers, but the actual manufacturing is taking place elsewhere. One of the core missions of the MEP is to change this and revert to an Invent Here, Manufacture Here model once more. For more information on the work of ARMI, visit https://www.armiusa.org. To learn more about the work of Advanced Solutions, visit https://www.advancedsolutions.com/overview. Things You Wont Like About Developed Synonym Resume and Things You Will

Things You Won't Like About Developed Synonym Resume and Things You Will Ideas, Formulas and Shortcuts for Developed Synonym Resume Writing a resume can be plenty of work. In either instance, you may also include more comprehensive information regarding deadlines in your cover letter. That means you must make sure that your statement differs. So your personal statement will normally be the means. Assume that you want to modify the name of a database object that's used heavily in your queries. When resolving references to an object, Oracle Database employs a public synonym only in the event the object isn't prefaced by means of a schema and isn't followed by means of a database connection. Also, you may use a synonym to provide an object a more convenient name, possibly in your schema. If you just have synonyms for objects in the exact database you may think two-part names only. So depending upon your case you might or might not add column translations as synonyms. The table name has to be a distinctive name for this schema. Alternately, you can make indexes separately after the table is made. The temporary table is produced in a different, session-specific schema. Naturally, it might not be an imitation! For instance, the synonyms grouped with the term road might include boulevard, street, or path. Life After Developed Synonym Resume Some will be in the shape of a table while others are going to be descriptive and full of text. Reusing a current user is merely plain lazy and will cause problems later on. There can be queries still running against the very first snapshot so that you may choose to comment out the DROP DATABASE command and have a distinct job to do it at a subsequent time. Basically, you may make a new table from a current table with the addition of a SELECT statement at the conclusion of the CREATE TABLE statement. Appropriate privileges have to be granted to a user before the user may use the synonym. So adding translated columns depending on the end user's language would be a fantastic idea. Instead you've got to log in the user that owns them, directly or with a proxy user. Imagine if every time you produce a new table you must grant individual privileges to, say, 100 unique users. As a result of synonyms, both names may be utilized in the application and database. Synonyms may be used to hide the database connection. They are a very powerful feature of Oracle. Any tool, or mixture of tools, that track dependencies are likely to be somewhat beneficial to you. Provided that your use case contains all the needed info, it can use any of the various formats or you may even create a format of your own. Prior to making any changes, the very first thing that's always sensible to do is to back up the database table. Multiple temporary tables with the exact same name can exist at the exact same time in the very same database if they're created in distinct sessions because the tables are assigned to unique schemas. The Upside to Developed Synonym Resume Advertisers were struggling for a means to reach Internet users. When designing software or another kind of project, a Use Case is employed as a planning tool which helps to ensure that the users and customers have the very best experience possible. A number of businesses simply assign numerical IDs to be certain that use cases may be indexed and maintained. All the possible alternate routes that can be brought to the use case need to get mentioned here. It is very important to classify the use case with a level in order to spell out the urgency which it should be managed. If you change formats between use cases, it is going to appear disorganized and will be more difficult to understand for readers also. The 5-Minute Rule for Developed Synonym Resume The grade of the work that you do. For example, if you wish to enhance the account opening procedure, you could identify the way your process compares to competition, how it's the lifeline of your business, by what means the customer experience is sufferingyou get the picture.
